The Bowxflex Xtreme fatures over 70 exercises and the resistance can go from light 5 pounds to very heavy 210 pounds. In case its to light for you it can be upgrade to even a massive 410 pounds. The cable pulley allows other exercise without changing the cables, as we have seen in test of other home gyms. This machine is nearly perfect and moreover if you have limited space – just check the view from the side – it’s very compact and doesn’t need much space at all.


With this machine you can do exercises as following:

24 arm- , 18 back-, 16 shoulder- ,12 leg-, 6 chest- and 3 ab- exercises. The lat-tower offers 2 different adjustments for lats and triceps. The extensions helps you develop muscular legs. The abdominal crunches stimulate you six-pack and the lower pulley is ideal for strengthening your glutes and hamstrings. In case you visit a gym regularly, please show me all of these possibilities without waiting an hour on different stations. So all in all it Bowflex offers more than 70 exercise. I can’t even think of more than those. This machine supports all your muscle groups.


We found it very comfortable to switch to train different body parts, without changing the cables all the time (a time saver). So you can keep your concentration on the training and not on the handling. Moreover your heart rate can ramain constant througout all your exercises.

The power rods are made of a sturdy high-tech material and feel like free weights. Meaning that the machine supports you in your movement, but it’s more flexible than other machines, which limit your movement and your muscles  completely. It’s like a combination of free weights and the savety of a machine.

The seat offers is well padded, so it doesn’t feel as if you sit on a piece of wood, as we have realized on some home gyms (we helped ourselves with a bike saddle, modified it and bend it on the unpleasant plastic seat). The seat is moreover adjustable and you have knee and also back support. All in all you can workout very comfortable and it’s fun to do it – not a pain like on other home gyms.

The assembling spans from 1 – 5 hours depending on your experience and if you have a helping hand. The package includes a DVD which helps very much.

Any Complaints?

Considering the high quiality of this home gym we can recommend this piece of equipment wholeheartedly. Especially, when you consider the justifiable price. Some users complain that “…100 pounds on this machine feels like 60-70 lbs for free weights…”, but this is a usual problem, which can be found everywhere on compact home gyms. The problem is coming from exercises, which are done “with a swing”, rather than slowly and correct. If you do the workout this way, then it’s no problem at all.

Anything Else You Should Know?

The Bowflex is a very compact home gym, in contrast to other stations. Just look at the huge stations in the gym. You can do more weights those professional stations, but who can exceed the massive 410 pounds limit of the Bowflex. Rather you are from heaven sent or you need years to crack this barrier (mostly 6-10 years of steady training). All in all it’s a sturdy, easy on the joints and allows you to do a massive amount of different exercises, which offers you a big variety. It will not get boring – the new “few” years ;o)
